Guide Spotlight – Chris Durfee

With his hard work ethic, acute attention to detail, and his overwhelming dedication to client experience, it’s no wonder that Chris is our guide spotlight this summer. Going by the names of “Durf,” “Topher,” and “Astro-Durf,” he’s one of the more heavily nicknamed guides we have on staff – but whatever name you choose, he’ll be sure to provide an unbelievable experience, whether ice climbing, backpacking, or in the Kennecott mill building.

Before joining SEAG in 2012, Chris had extensive personal experience in the Sierras, the Cascades, and the Rockies, climbing everything he could get his hands on. During all of his adventures, he is joined by his helmet pal, Wilson, who is often seen guiding out on the Root Glacier in the summers (although not technically on our payroll…). Although he’s several years senior of most of the guides, he’s a big kid at heart, and will keep you entertained with his energy and enthusiasm.

We’d like to send out an extra congratulations to Chris this year, as he became a grandfather! While we know climbing will still continue to be one of his passions, I’m sure he’ll be spending a little bit more time with his family as he spoils the little one. Congratulations Chris!
