Stephen (aka Ginger Spice) joined St. Elias Alpine Guides back in 2020 while attending the Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Outdoor Adventure. After backpacking his way through twenty-plus countries as a teenager and, quite literally, running away to join the circus, Stephen found his love for the outdoors. Stephen lived for two years in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he climbed the seven summits of the former Yugoslavia. During his Junior year in college, he backpacked through the Cerro Castillo National Park and Patagonia National Park in Chile, surrounded by beautiful mountains and hanging glaciers.
Backpacking isn’t all Stephen is known for. His guiding disciplines extend to rafting, sea kayaking, ice climbing, and glacier hiking. After spending a day out on the glacier with Stephen you can’t help but smile. A former circus clown turned ice climbing guide, Stephen works hard to make every one of his clients happy – even on rainy days! Ice climbing and glacier hiking aren’t all Stephen can guide. Whatever the terrain, weather, and circumstances you’ll be having the time of your life if Stephen is your guide.
In the off-season, Stephen can be found out climbing multi-pitch rock routes one week and ice climbing the next. With a degree in philosophy and a great ambition for the outdoors, the world is Stephen’s playground. For the summer, you can find Stephen in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias.
