Raft Three Rivers in One Day!
This trip is great for families, as well as all travelers aged 8 years and up! If you’d like to experience the deep backcountry of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park by floating down a splashy river, this is the trip for you! It puts into the Kennicott River just a half-mile downstream from the glacier terminus and continues through splashy Class II and III rapids, a wide glacial valley great for animal-spotting, and the impressively narrow and twisty Nizina Canyon. We use oar (not paddle) boats for this trip, so you get to hang on tight and enjoy the scenery as we go down the river!
In comparison to other river trips, the adventure is not yet over when we pull ashore and prepare to return home. Instead of getting picked up by a van, we will wait along the river bar until we hear the hum of the DeHavilland Beaver bush plane! Enjoy a spectacular flight back to McCarthy as you retrace your route down the river, and a pass over the Root Glacier that you may have hiked on during a Glacier Hike with us and the historic town of Kennecott. Upon landing back in McCarthy, you’ll have just enough time for a quick shower before dinner.
Highlights Include:
- Impressive views of the mile-high Stairway Icefall (weather permitting)
- Splashy Class II-III Rapids navigated by Oar Rafts
- Opportunities to view wildlife from the river
- Delicious Alaska-style picnic lunch
- 15min bush plane flight back to McCarthy

To keep in accordance with recent Alaska State mandates, we are requiring advanced reservations for all of our activities at this time. While in the past we have prided ourselves on always having availability for walk-ins, we are hopeful that this required measure will help continue to curb the spread of the virus as the state begins to open back up. So if you’re planning on heading out to the Wrangells this summer, please make a reservation today! You can easily book online yourself by clicking the orange “Book This Trip” button on the left or give us a call and we’ll be happy to assist you!
