It was a rainy fall day in Washington when Leslie drove past the Skykomish River at high water. She pulled over the car, stared at the river, and decided then and there that she wanted to become a boater. Prior to guiding, Leslie worked internationally in nutrition research, but left that behind to follow her dreams of rivers in Alaska. Shortly after arriving in the north, she knew she had made the right decision and never looked back.
Leslie learned to row on Alaskan rivers and is familiar with the cold, braided, glacial rivers distinct to Alaska. Now, she is a master of the “shenis”, part of a 4 boat family, and a student of the river.
Leslie’s winter goals are to ski as much as possible and to have fun doing it. Driving around a school bus she and her boyfriend Jonny call home, it’s easy to follow the snow and the rivers going from mountain range to mountain range.
So if you’re lucky enough to take a rafting trip with us and have Leslie as your guide, ask her to tell a story or two – you’re sure to be entertained!
