Kelly hails from Buffalo, New York (go Bills!), and brings his passion for history, the wilderness, and how things work to Kennecott and Wrangell-St. Elias. He graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a degree in Environmental Studies and Wilderness Education, but spent his free time backpacking and rock and ice climbing all over the Adirondacks. He brought not only his degree and excitement with him when he moved to Alaska, but also certifications as a Wilderness First Responder, an Avalanche Level I, a Leave No Trace Master Educator, and a NY State Tier I Ice Climbing and Rock Climbing Guide.
In addition to being a multi-talented guide, Kelly’s analytical mind and attention to detail make him a wonderful gear supervisor, keeping all our tents and tools in top condition. In what little is left of his spare time, he can be found packrafting, skiing, scuba diving, personally ensuring that the Heinz fortune grow in perpetuity, and fighting a losing battle to convince other guides that the Browns and the Lions do not deserve their support (Go Bills!).
