Cate’s love for adventure stems from going on long road trips and skiing in the mountains with her family. At a young age, these trips left her with a thirst to go out and experience everything that life has to offer. Synchronized swimmer turned competitive simmer, she’s always felt comfortable in the water, but her land-locked home state of Kansas left something to be desired.
With her passion for swimming and seeing new places, she packed her bags and attended college in Honolulu, Hawaii. But even the endless water access couldn’t keep Cate from looking for her next big adventure! Fluent in Spanish, she spent one of her semesters in Sevilla, Spain – taking in a new culture and learning new recipes along the way.
Never one to sit still, Cate took advantage of a summer break away from studying Sustainability Studies and Spanish (say that 5 times fast!) and joined us here in McCarthy in 2021. She quickly adapted to life in the Alaska bush and her experience has inspired her to develop her land-based skills. Want to meet Cate? You can find her in our Kennecott Office or leading tours out on the Root Glacier this summer!
