| Few things are quite as rewarding as good friends, great hiking and incredible scenery while living out of a backpack. Alaska trekking conjures images of vast, sweeping landscapes, towering ice covered mountains and lush tundra covered meadows – and our Chitistone Pass Backpack delivers them all. From the airy landing strip nicknamed “Wolverine” to the broad splendor of Skolai Pass, this backpack trip packs a lot into a 4 day journey. |

As soon as we take off in the bush plane, Mother Nature ufurls the grandeur of Alaska. Backpack trips in the backcountry of Wrangell St. Elias require a bush flight – which is one of the great highlights of the trip.

This Alaska trekking trip stays in the high alpine, so Dall sheep and
even mountain goat are a often seen along the way. Dall sheep are
curious, but skittish, so it’s amazing how close they come to us.

Fossils can be found in certain areas, adding a fun “treasure hunt”
to this great Alaska trek!

Of course we leave the fossils where we find them, but finding
and photographing them is the best part!

The magnificent Chitistone Canyon of the Wrangell St. Elias is an
incredible place to backpack. Alaska meets the southwest as tundra
covered meadows give way to rust colored cliffs and ruddy buttes.

This exhilarating portion of the Chitistone Goat Trail is a major highlight
of this Alaska trekking classic. Your guide will walk you through the steep cliffs and narrow paths that allow us to cross these colorful rock bands.

The area between Skolai Pass and Chitistone Pass is one of the
few places in the park where caribou are commonly seen.

High alpine = beautiful wildflowers in Alaska. Trekking through
these colorful fields is like a childhood fantasy.

Bear are also common to the area, and if we’re lucky the steppes
can afford a great view from a comfortable distance.

Chitistone Pass offers some of the very best Alaska trekking
around, with its sweeping views and hanging glaciers.

The broad beautiful landscape of Skolai Pass gives you a sense
of expansion and exhilaration as we complete our journey.

Life long friendships are forged through shared adventure, and
an Alaska trekking trip is perfect for forming tight bonds.
