Ice Climbing Guide PositionWe are seeking climbers to lead one-day ice climbing seminars on the Root Glacier. The glacier is a 2 mile hike from our office in Kennecott. Guides are responsible for picking up their clients at their lodging, orienting them to the area, fitting them with boots, crampons, harnesses and other gear, sharing human and natural history information along the hike, teaching basic glacier travel and ice climbing techniques and monitoring safety throughout the day. Applicants do not need to have previous guiding or glacier experience, but must have significant personal climbing experience. Ice climbing experience is not required but is a big plus. First Aid/CPR certification is required; Wilderness Advanced First Aid or First Responder is preferred. A friendly and professional attitude is mandatory, as is passion for guiding and the outdoors as well as clear and solid teaching skills. Ice climbing guides must also be willing to work as hiking guides and historical tour leaders. You will probably lead ice climbing an average of 1-2 times per week. email jobs@steliaguides.com |
