Day Trip Guides

We have openings for day trip guides to lead the following trips:

- glacier hiking
- alpine hiking
- ice climbing
- white
water rafting
- historical tours

All day guides must be able and willing to lead glacier hikes and history tours. No guiding experience is neccessary, but personal outdoor experience is a must. Ice climbing and rafting are based on your prior experience.

Work will be based on your skills and experience. We are especially interested in guides with experience or interest in several of these fields. Other languages a plus (especially german, dutch and hebrew).

All new day guides receive pre-season training in the specifics of their position, but personal passion and outdoor experience is a must. Raft guides must have prior experience and solid rowing skills.

Please check out our website for more information about the area and what it might be like to work for St. Elias Alpine Guides. We have positions available for the summer (mid-
May to mid-September) as well as short term positions for the busiest time of the season (July through mid-August).

We are located in a the small community of McCarthy (pop. ~67) in the heart of the largest national park in the country. There is no electricity or hot running water at our headquarters, so you will be "roughing it" all summer.

If you are interested in applying for a Day Trip Guide position, please email us your resume with a brief cover letter, as well as a history of your outdoor experience, which should include any formal training you've had (outdoor ed classes, NOLS courses, first aid certifications) and any previous outdoor leadership positions. You will receive a series of emails with a job description, expectations, responsibilities, as well as a description of life in McCarthy.

Office Staff

SEAG is looking for a part-time Office Staff person who will also work as a day trip guide (see above) and/or historical tour leader (see below). This person will assist the owner and manager in the day-to-day operations of the guide service. Day to day duties  will include speaking with clients, helping fit crampons and other equipment, taking payments, entering payment information into a computer, working with Quick Books, general maintanence, and paperwork duties. Interested applicants should send an email with their resume, any outdoor experience, and a description of why they want to work for SEAG in a remote Alaskan wilderness.

Historical Tour Leader

Historical Tour Leaders will be taking clients on tours of the old Kennecott Mill Building complex, as well as walking tours of the town of McCarthy.  Historical Tour Leaders receive extensive pre-season training, as well as study materials to be familiar with prior to arriving in McCarthy. Although not required, speaking multiple languages, especially German, is a significant asset.

This is an opportunity to live in an extremely interesting Alaska bush town, working with outdoor enthusiasts and engaged clientele. There is no electricity or running water in the town of McCarthy, so you must be prepared to "rough it" for the whole time you are here. We have historical tour leader positions open for both the whole season and for the peak season of July and the first half of August.

Historical tour leaders also often work as office staff or day guides (see above), but this is not required.

If you are interested in applying for a Historical Tour Leader position, please email your resume, a history of your outdoor experience, and a brief description of what you hope to gain from employment with SEAG. You will receive a series of emails with a job description, pay scale, expectations and responsibilities.
