leave the Kennicott Valley, you are in a world that few have visited.
Fly in to places that can only reached by an Alaskan bush plane
and a skilled pilot. Experience this magical wilderness during the
day and still be back in time for dinner and a hot shower… Many clients prefer to let us know their budget as well as what they want to see and do, then allow us to pick their destination. The Wrangell St. Elias National Park is BIG. 13.2 million acres big to be exact. What better way to experience the raw natural beauty of this magnificent park, than by taking a guided fly-in hike to the Kennicott Glacier. The morning of your flight, you and your professional mountain guide will board a bush plane for the scenic flight up the Kennicott Glacier. During the flight, you’ll have a birds-eye view of the magnificent blue pools and rugged glacial landscape below you and come eye to eye with 6,696’(2,040m) Donoho Peak and the historic Erie Mine Bunkhouse. Your experienced bush pilot will land the plane on a tiny dirt airstrip nestled in the fosse (the area between the lateral morraine and the adjoining mountain sides) of the Kennicott Glacier. Walking among dazzling purple shooting-stars and alpine forget-me-nots, you are soon treated to a panoramic view of 16,390 ft.(4,995m) Mt. Blackburn and surrounded by hanging glaciers, immense icefalls and craggy peaks. You and your guide can climb higher for more expansive views, or cross the lateral moraine and explore the ice of the Kennicott Glacier. You leave the "peopled" area behind on this adventure, and truly experience the stillness of this remote wilderness. $375 per person |

Located in the heart of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park, the Nizina Glacier forms the headwaters of the Nizina River. Throughout the centuries this mighty river has carved its way through the rugged landscape, in some places, flowing through canyons with mile-high walls. Located within just a short flight from McCarthy, this guided, fly-in day hike offers a superb opportunity to experience a truly Alaskan wilderness adventure. The morning of your flight, you and your professional mountain guide will board a bush plane for the short flight to the gravel landing strip at the Nizina Glacier. While flying, be sure to keep your camera ready. Dall sheep and bears make their homes here and the waterfalls spilling off of the Mile High Cliffs will take your breath away. Once you and your guide land, you are surrounded by the sheer heights of 7,500’(2,286m) Nizina Mountain and 6,844’ (2,086m)Chitistone Mountain. Destinations such as Doubtful or Moonshine Creek call out to you and day hiking opportunities stretch out in all directions. You may choose to explore the eerie blue icebergs floating in Nizina Lake or head up valley to explore the broken edge of the Nizina Glacier itself. During the summer, wildflowers abound and the many creeks flowing from the surrounding mountains provide ample places to enjoy a scenic, wilderness lunch. $440 per person |

Surrounded by magnificent hanging glaciers and home to caribou, Dall sheep, and bear, Skolai Pass is an ideal destination for a guided, fly-in day hike. The morning of your hike, you and your professional mountain guide will board a bush plane and fly east from McCarthy, up the Nizina River. You’ll want to keep your camera close by because shortly after takeoff your plane is dwarfed by the sheer faces of the Mile High Cliffs. As you continue up river, iceberg-choked Nizina Lake and the Nizina Glacier come into view and soon enough, your pilot touches down on the soft tundra of Skolai Pass. With the entire day ahead of you, the hiking options are plentiful. You and your guide may choose to explore the southern side of Skolai Pass and the magnificent hanging glaciers known as the Seven Sisters. If a more strenuous hike is what you are after, you may choose to hike up a series of alpine benches and head for Chitistone Pass, an airy perch surrounded by high peaks, hanging glaciers and sweeping valley views that will take your breath away. Whatever you decide to do, Skolai Pass offers a truly Alaskan wilderness experience that won’t soon be forgotten. $575 per person |

True to its name, Iceberg Lake is filled with icebergs. These icebergs, however, aren’t the floating kind. In fact, most of the lake has no water in it at all and the icebergs are sitting on the ground! Located 45 minutes south of McCarthy, by air, and nestled in the Chugach Mountains, Iceberg Lake is typical of many Alaskan lakes that are formed when a glacier dams up a river. Typically, at some point in the season, the ice-dam fails and the water that is backed up releases in an event called a jokulhlaup. The icebergs that were once floating on the surface of the lake are left sitting on the ground. Iceberg Lake is a fantastic destination for a fly-in day hike. You and your professional mountain guide can explore the eerie blue icebergs on the lakebed, take pictures of bear tracks in the sand, or head for higher ground to enjoy sweeping panoramas of the Bagley Icefield and the hanging glaciers that descend into the valley from the surrounding peaks. You may also choose to head up-valley to explore the small alpine lakes found there and munch on wild blueberries. Keep your camera ready on the return flight. Dall sheep are often spotted high on the mountainsides and on a clear day the second highest peak in North America, 19,551 ft (5,959m) Mt. Logan is visible far to the east. $590 per person |
