On a perfect day, the Don Sheldon Amphitheater on the Ruth Glacier is so spectacular that Reader's Digest listed it as one of the ten most spectacular places on earth!  The world famous Don Sheldon Mountain House offers convenient access to this glaciated paradise and the equally spectacular Ruth Gorge, right around the corner. For those seeking a truly once in a lifetime Alaska ski touring adventure, this trip is second to none.

The Mountain House is the perfect base for ski touring Alaska & ski mountaineeringDuring our five-day, four-night stay, we have the Mountain House as our own personal lodge as we ski tour around the area.  The glass-walled, heated, six-sided building provides a cozy rest between tours and a warm place to swap stories in the evenings. Its location, on a rib of rock surrounded by glacier, provides breathtaking views of some of the areas impressive summits. Mt. McKinley and the Moose's Tooth are at your doorstep and, as you enjoy moderate ski touring on the Ruth Glacier, you may have to pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming.  If you've still got some energy after a spectacular day of ski touring, Alaska's famous Northern Lights are sure to spice up your nights. This is a custom trip and we've got itineraries for those of you who are a bit more adventurous too!

Our trip starts and ends in the historic town of Talkeetna, where we will fly by ski-equipped bush plane to our glacier landing.  It is only a short walk or ski to the Mountain House, where our cook and professional mountain guides will take good care of us.  We would hardly call it roughing it.  Each day will feature a ski tour, or possibly some world-class Alaska ski mountaineering, returning to the Mountain House for a well earned rest.  Participants should be intermediate cross-country skiers in fair physical conditioning.

Kite Skiing the Chugach - 10 Days

May – August
Alaska kite skiing, Ski touring Alaska, and Alaska ski mountaineering on the Bagley Icefield.

This unique adventure begins with a breathtaking, one- hour flight through the Wrangell St. Elias and Chugach Mountains from McCarthy to the Bagley Icefield.

The Bagley Icefield is one of the largest icefields outside of the Polar Regions, and offers an incredible training area for learning the fast growing sport of traction kiting. Although the ski mountaineering and ski touring options are endless, for this adventure, we keep our sights set on the lower mountains along the perimeter of the Icefield.

As the sound of the plane fades you'll re-discover what it means to truly be in the wilderness!

The majestic Bagley Icefield is home to many mountains which are unclimbed, unskied, and unbelievably skier friendly. After learning and grasping the fundamentals of kite skiing, we will use our kites to cover long distances with relative ease and speed. This unique mode of travel puts a new spin on ski touring Alaska.!

The Bagley Icefield becomes our super-highway to the mountains. If you have never flown a kite or are a trend setting veteran, we are happy to cater to all ability levels. This is a kite skiing paradise yet to be explored!

Kite Skiing the Chugach: 1:1 $8,999
Kite Skiing the Chugach: 2:1 $5,250
